This course is designed to provide the basic firearms familiarization, state law and basic firearms training for private citizens as required by the City of Chicago. Upon completion of this course, the student will qualify to obtain a City of Chicago Firearm Permit, allowing them to own a registered firearm, kept in their home (assuming completion of other requirements). The course will cover Illinois law regarding use of force, firearms safety, gun locks and safe storage, compliance with city ordinances, and fundamentals of safe firearm use for defense. This course consists of four hours of classroom training and one hour of practical training at the firing range. Completion of this course is only one step in the process to obtain a Chicago Firearm Permit (CFP).
Fidelity Investigative Training Academy is the original training facility to first provide the City of Chicago approved Chicago Firearm Permit Course. All of our CFP Courses are taught by State of Illinois certified firearms instructors, that are a also NRA Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors. Our CFP Course has been reviewed and approved by the City of Chicago's Law Department, as meeting the city's training requirement. In addition, our "Chicago Firearm Permit" Course has received national recognition by the National Rifle Association, and our school has been featured in NRA publications.
Course tuition does not include range fee and ammunition costs. After completing the classroom section of the course, students will drive to a nearby suburban range to complete the live-fire section of this course. Range fee is $ 20.00 per student, and handgun rental (which includes ammunition) is $ 15.00. These expenses are separate from the tuition of the course and students pay separately for these associated costs.Your total expense is $ 110.00, the lowest anywhere!
There are no public ranges in the City of Chicago. Upon completion of the classroom portion of the course, students will travel to a designated range in the north/western suburbs (determined by date of the class) for the live-fire portion of the course. Students must provide their own transportation to and from the range facility. The range facility is a public range, and other shooters will also be using the range. It is important that the student listen carefully to the instructions given by the instructor(s) and range safety officers. Any individual that engages in unsafe behavior or refuses to listen to the staff instructor(s) will immediately be ejected from the range and the course. No refund will be issued.
NOTE: You must have a Firearm's Owner's Identification Card (FOID) issued by the Illinois State Police, prior to purchasing a firearm or registering with the City of Chicago. If you do not have one, you can obtain an application here: http://www.isp.state.il.us/docs/6-181.pdf
